100% pure cacao mass — single origin from Sri Lanka. No additives. No sugar. Just cacao as nature made it.

ayu cacao comes from small family-run farms in Sri Lanka and has been developed in direct collaboration with local producers, ensuring full traceability from fruit to cup.

The beans are fermented and sun-dried before being carefully ground into a cacao mass. It's this meticulous process that gives ayu its deep, rounded flavor, without the use of chemicals or industrial processing.

ayu can be used for ceremonies, yoga, meditation and as an alternative to coffee. The cacao is also naturally rich in magnesium, iron, copper, dietary fiber and flavanols.

Recommended dose: 25–40 g per cup.

How to prepare your ceremonial cacao

  • Heat 200 ml. of water or plant-based milk to about 70°C (do not let it boil)
  • Grate or chop 20–40 g. of cacao (about 2–4 tbsp) and add to the liquid
  • Whisk or blend until creamy and frothy
  • Optionally add a pinch of cayenne pepper, cinnamon, or honey to taste

Recommended dose: 20 g. for daily use — 40 g. for a full ceremonial experience.

Ayu Ceremonial Grade Cacao, ren kakaomasse fra Sri Lanka

Ayu is more than cacao. Every cup is naturally rich in nutrients, minerals and beneficial plant compounds that help support energy, calm, digestion and overall well-being.

Natural energy and essential minerals

Theobromine

The compound that gives cacao its gentle, balanced energy. Unlike coffee, it doesn't typically cause jitters or a sudden crash. Just a smooth, long-lasting sense of energy.

Magnesium

One cup of ayu provides up to 40% of a woman's daily magnesium intake. Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function, supports the nervous system and helps reduce tiredness and fatigue.

Iron

ayu cacao is a rich source of plant-based iron. One cup provides nearly half of the recommended daily intake for men. Iron contributes to normal energy metabolism and the formation of red blood cells.

Copper

One cup of ayu provides 100% of your daily copper intake. Copper contributes to normal energy metabolism and helps protect cells from oxidative stress.

Manganese

Contributes to normal energy metabolism, protects cells from oxidative stress and supports the maintenance of healthy bones. One cup of ayu provides more than half of a woman's daily manganese intake.

Flavanols

Naturally occurring antioxidants that are preserved through our minimal processing methods. Research suggests they may support healthy blood circulation and help protect the body's cells from oxidative stress.

Anandamide

Often referred to as the 'bliss molecule'. It is one of the naturally occurring compounds that makes cacao such a unique and distinctive experience.

Tested for heavy metals

At ayu, we test our cacao for heavy metals because cacao - like many other plants and foods - naturally can contain trace amounts of elements such as cadmium and lead.

Heavy metals occur naturally in the environment. Cadmium is typically absorbed from the soil, while lead most often comes from environmental sources such as dust or air pollution and can settle on crops during cultivation, drying or handling.

That's why the important question isn't whether trace amounts are present -but at what level.

Our test results

Our cacao has been tested by SGS, an internationally recognised laboratory.

  • Arsenic: Not detected
  • Lead: Not detected
  • Cadmium: 0.20 mg/kg

The European Union's maximum limit for cadmium in chocolate products is up to 0.8 mg/kg. depending on the product category. Our cacao is therefore well below the EU's maximum permitted level.

High in fibre

9 g. of fibre per cup of ayu. Dietary fibre supports healthy digestion, helps promote a lasting feeling of fullness and contributes to more stable energy levels throughout the day. A naturally occurring part of cacao that makes ayu both nourishing and satisfying.
